Color Mode (CS-Mode)

The KTS/KTX contrast sensor is made for detecting marks using the difference in contrast between mark and background. To get the best result, the sensor automatically chooses the best emission light (RGB) for the 2-point teach-in.

However, this sensor is also capable of doing a 1-point teach-in. In this mode, the sensor is fast switching between its emission colors red, green and blue (RGB). For the human eye, the light-spot seems to be white. This mode is called "color mode".

In the screenshot of our software SOPAS-ET you can see on the left, as mentioned, the emission color is RGB. Also, the bars for the red, green and blue channel are shown. The grey horizontal rectangles indicate the switching area for each channel. All three bars have to be in their switching area to activate the switching output of the sensor.

ISDU71: "Show RGB values"

There might be a confusion between the described color mode (1-point teach-in) and the ISDU71 of the sensor. Below (IODD description, accessible via the product page), the ISDU71 is described as "Show RGB values". This function does not correlate with the teach-in and is for analysis purposes only. For example, checking the color signal of a mark or object and the background without influencing the teach-in.

By activating this function, the sensors process data acts just like mentioned above in the color mode: The emission color switches between R, G and B (which seems to be white for the human eye). The bits 3-5 of the process data simultaneously indicate the current emission color to the given Measurement Value (bits 6-15).

NOTE:

During the activated function, ISDU71, the switching outputs are not active!

After a restart of the device, the function is automatically reset to "0" (inactive).

After deactivating the ISDU71, the sensor just acts like before.

Conclusion

  • The Color Mode (CS-Mode) is for the running application. It is automatically activated when a 1-point teach-in is performed. The switching outputs are active. The process data bits indicate the measurement value for R, G and B cyclically.
  • The function "Show RGB values" is for analysis purposes only. It does not affect the teach-in and the switching outputs are not active during these measurements. The process data bits indicate the measurement value for R, G and B cyclically.
