SICK’s Visionary series delivers fast and flexible snapshot cameras designed for robotic applications where quick image acquisition is critical. Visionary‑S combines depth sensing with RGB color imaging, while Visionary‑T Mini uses time‑of‑flight technology for rapid depth capture at close range. Both models prioritize speed and simplicity over ultra‑high precision, making them ideal for structured picking tasks and environments where cycle time matters most.
While these cameras provide useful 3D data for object localization, the 3D resolution is not on par with high‑end stereo or structured‑light systems. For applications requiring fine detail or CAD‑based matching, alternative sensors is better suited.
PLB-510 (Visionary-S Cx)
Type: Stereo snapshot camera with RGB information Recommended working distance: 0.5 - 3 m Strengths:
High-resolution 3D color images
Robust in varying light conditions
Fast cycle time for quick image acquisition
Limitations:
No integrated illumination; external lighting recommended for dark or high-contrast scenes
Limited depth precision compared to high-end 3D sensors; not suitable for fine detail, CAD-based matching or reflective parts
Sensitive to reflective or transparent surfaces
Application: Ideal for box depalletizing where color information and fast capture speed are critical. Provides reliable object localization for structured picking tasks.

PLB-540 (Visionary-T Mini Cx)
Type: Compact Time-of-Flight snapshot camera Recommended working distance: 0.5 - 1 m Strengths:
Lightweight and compact; easy to mount on robot arms
Fast depth capture and robust performance in challenging lighting
Simple integration for close-range picking tasks
Wide field of view; wide field of view which makes it easy to use for robot mounting
Limitations:
Limited depth precision compared to high-end 3D sensors; not suitable for fine detail, CAD-based matching or reflective parts
Needs close proximity to objects for accurate data
Very dark surfaces can reduce measurement quality because they absorb infrared light, resulting in weak return signals and less accurate depth data
Application: Best suited for robot-mounted picking or localization of larger objects. Its fast cycle time and compact design make it ideal for dynamic applications where the camera moves with the robot.

Both Visionary-S and Visionary-T mini uses either the alignment sphere or the calibration plate A2 for alignment. For optimal performance when using the sphere, it should be produced with SLS printing and finished with a matte surface.
