Basics
At the EDS35 / EDM35 it could happen, that the error 22h occurs.
This is the Error Register 42h, Bit 2.
What is the source of it
The Hiperface DSL safety encoders are counting the lifetime in minutes. The values can be read out in the resource "0CBh"
The encoder's lifetime is 20 years (10,512,000 minutes)
When the lifetime is over, the encoder does not provide a position information any more. It will show the error 22h (Error register 42h, Bit 2)
The encoder is broken and needs to be replaced.
Why doesn't it make sense?
The mission time of the encoder is 20 years. This means, a safety encoder needs to be replaced in 20 years.
The encoder is counting minutes, as long it is switched on. A safety encoder must be switched on all the time, that the error 22h occurs. → In this case, the functionality doesn't make the system more safe.
It is also possible to use the safety encoder in non safety applications. There it is no problem to use the encoder longer as 20 yeras → this means, the error 22h breaks the encoder, but it would be possible to still use it.
In the next firmware change of the encoder, the functionality, that the lifetime triggers the error 22h will be removed.
