How long does a position request take, at Hiperface?

A typical Hiperface request contains 5 parts

  1. Master request (from the drive)
  2. time out (to recognize  the end of the request)
  3. maximum response time (depending on the Hiperface request)
  4. Slave response (from the encoder)
  5. time out (to recognize the end of the response)

A typical Hiperface position request looks like this:

To know the several times, we have to calculate them:

Length of 1 Byte:

  • physical length of 1 Byte = 11 bit
  • Baud Rate: 9600
  • --> Time of 1 Byte = 1,146 ms

Time out:

  • 55/Baudrate --> 55/9600
  • 5,7 ms

Response time:

  • For the command "Position Request", the maximum response time is 10 ms
  • For the command "Position Request", the typical response time is 2 ms

The exact timing of the Hiperface position request looks like this:

  1. Master request (from the drive)
    3 x 1,146 ms = 3,438 ms
  2. time out (to recognize  the end of the request)
    5,7 ms
  3. maximum response time (depending on the Hiperface request)
    maximum 10 ms,
    typically 2 ms,
  4. Slave response (from the encoder)
    7 x 1,146 ms = 8,022 ms
  5. time out (to recognize the end of the response)
    5,7 ms

Total maximum time for the request: 32,86 ms

Total typically time for the request: 24,86 ms
