Challenge: detection of a certain side of a beam splitter
A beam splitter is like a mirror - but half reflective and half transparent.
There are no metals used in production for such objects. So an inductive sensor solution like our IMC-family is not possible.
Usually, the reflective coating is on one side only.
The solution:
Fiber amplifier 6039095 WLL180T-P434 (Also 6076723 WLL80P-22T6Y1DZA71Z1Z1 or 6087430 GLL70P-22TGY1DZZZZZ1Z16039095 can be used. This article shows on how to set it up with WLL180T) with optical fiber 5322472 LL3-DC38.
The fiber LL3-DC38 comes with a V-shaped optic. The light spot is focused to a distance of 6mm.
How to set up:
1.) Mount the fiber from above to the object. Distance is 3mm. Stable fiber - detection object distance, very good object guiding and stable fiber mounting is crucial. Connect it to the amplifier.
2.) Set up the amplifier: Choose the response time depending on your energy level. "Standard" or "long" should fit in the most cases. Avoid "super" because of saturation risk (9999 in display).
3.) Now perform a one point teach.
4.) Test if the differentiation between both beam splitter sides works reliable.
We are using the triangular effect for the detection. The picture above shows how it works.
If the reflective side of the beam splitter is on the bottom, the light of the sender has to take a longer distance until its reflected away.
This leads to another position of the reflected light? received light level changes.
