PLOC2D enables flexible automation of 2D localization tasks using robust pattern‑matching technology. The PLOC2D sensor accurately detects and positions objects based on their 2D shape, ensuring reliable performance in robot pick applications. Thanks to its intuitive configuration tools and guided setup workflow, PLOC2D is easy to commission and operate, even for users with limited robot or vision‑system experience.
SmartMark
Besides PLOC2D’s core localization capabilities, the SmartMark functionality introduces an advanced method for compensating real‑world positional deviations in automated workstations. SmartMark automatically detects and corrects robot and fixture position offsets, which significantly reduces the need for time‑consuming onsite robot programming.
In automated environments, knowing the exact position of the robot relative to the workspace is essential for reliable operation. Even minor deviations, such as inaccurate docking of mobile robots, tolerances in part carriers, or variations in gripper and tool mounting, can negatively impact pick accuracy and overall system performance. SmartMark addresses these challenges by measuring the six‑degree‑of‑freedom pose of a 2D reference target, enabling precise compensation of positional inaccuracies without complex calibration procedures.
With SmartMark, mobile and flexible robotic systems can achieve the same level of interaction precision as stationary robots. The function allows flexible handling of trays or fixtures whose positions are unknown, and enables identification of tray contents via Data Matrix codes. This makes the SmartMark functionality well suited for dynamic production environments and frequently changing layouts.
In addition, SmartMark provides a fast and accurate method for workstation registration and program testing. This approach helps accelerate commissioning and validation processes.
Robot integration
PLOC2D communicates with robot controllers via standard TCP/IP, enabling straightforward integration with most robot platforms. In addition, PLOC2D also supports fieldbus communication.
For Universal Robots and the ABB OmniCore controller, dedicated plugins are available to further simplify setup and integration. These plugins streamline commissioning and operation, making PLOC2D accessible even for users with limited robotics experience.
For Universal Robots, three URCaps are provided: For Polyscope5 and below, one is designed for stationary mounted applications and one for robot mounted applications. For PolyscopeX, there is one urcap for Robot Mounted and SmartMark applications. All three URCaps, along with the ABB addin, are available for download at sick.com.
