The laser diode of the distance sensors DME4000 and DME5000 is automatically deactivated when the internal temperature of the device drops below -15°C. At same time the unit changes from the normal distance value display to the flashing "Service" display. After pressing the ESC and UP keys simultaneously, the corresponding error code is shown in the format "E.ABCD", e.g. "E2832" in the upper right corner.
If a temperature error occurs, the nibble "B" in "E.ABCD" has a value >= 8 , because bit 3 of the hex nibble is set to "1".

The condition described above can occur, for example, when units are installed in a cold storage warehouse and the internal temperature of the unit drops due to a prolonged power failure. It remains even if the internal temperature of the unit subsequently exceeds the limit value of -15°C again. A reactivation of the laser diode and a transition to the normal operating mode is only possible by an additional restart of the unit (power reset) after exceeding -15°C.
In contrast to the behaviour described above, with the successor DL100 Pro the laser diode and the normal operating mode are automatically reactivated as soon as the internal temperature of the unit exceeds the limit value of -15°C. No power reset is necessary. Therefore we strongly recommend to use DL100 Pro instead of DME4000/DME5000.
