With our "NextGen" Sensor Products there are a feature which is called ApplicationSelect (AS).See MultiMode 6
At the moment the article is written the product family with this feature is
WTM12L like the WTM4S as example.
With all optical electronic sensor there are three important parameter concerning the functionality.
This parameters and their dependencies could be describe with this chart :
With stability is meant the robustness against other foreign light sources i.e. other Sensors ,overhead lightning or warning lights.
Until recently these parameter was fixed in the smaller sensors. Of course we ,as a sensor manufacturer, tried to find the golden spot which was very hard in order to solve the most application request.
With the new "ApplicationSelect" feature you are able to shift this point.
That means you have a lot of more distance, the same stability, but the blue point moves away from switchting frequency , means the sensor getting slower.
With the normal setting you have 1kHz swichting frequency and following black/white characteristic.
If you seen this diagram for first time:
6% = 6% Remission = Black
18% = 18% Remission = Grey
90% = 90% Remission = White
If you want to detect a black object with white background (6%/90% Curve) at ~300mm (x axis) the background has to be 15mm( corresponding value on the y -axis) from the target away.
If you switch on Application select the graph looks like this.
As you see the distances are getting quite bigger, and very positive side effect is, that objects which are very hard to detect like highly shiny objects or objects with a low remission.
Keep in mind the switching frequency is only 35 Hz in this setting.
