The GSDML file (General Station Description Markup Language) is the official device description for PROFINET devices. It contains all relevant information that the engineering system (e.g., TIA Portal) needs to correctly configure and operate a device. In simplified terms, the GSDML file includes the following information:
DeviceIdentity: VendorID, DeviceID
DeviceAccessPointItem (DAP): Communication interface of the device
HardwareRelease and SoftwareRelease: Define the tested hardware and firmware versions
Module structure: Slots, subslots, process data
The GSDML files for the MLG-2 can be downloaded directly from the product page under “Downloads” → “Software”, for example: MLG02N-0295N13201 - Downloads - Software
The file name includes the SICK versioning for the GSDMLs.
The GSDML name itself is in compliance with ISO 15745 “Open Systems Application Integration Framework” and is based on the defined profile of a field device. In addition, you may find another version number (e.g., V2.43). This version refers to the GSDML schema used.
"The GSDML file structure is in compliance with the ISO 15745 "Open Systems Application Integration Framework" and is oriented on the defined profile of a field device via the following model:
The version of the GSDML model used defines which scope of language a GSD file uses.
The version date is updated, if, for example, an error is cleared or a function extended."
