The article suggests a solution on how to detect the turning position of a bottle with a flat part for labeling.

The bottle has a flat part (see picture below) where the label should be placed by the labeling machine. 

 

The bottle turns automatically and should stop when the flat part is in front of the labeler.
A possible solution could be a through beam sensor or fiber that is mounted as you can see in the sketch below:

If the bottle dimensions fit, a fork sensor could be a solution with easy installation.
