This article shows a possible way to detect the moving direction of a object in two directions with a picoScan150. A movement can be detected either from right to left (port 4 / pin 6 switches) or left to right (port 3 / pin 5 will switch). Alternatively, the direction can be read event driven via CoLaA/B (LIDoutputstate). For tutorial see: „How to read fieldstate” https://support.sick.com/sick-knowledgebase/article/?code=KA-10052. The 2D LIDAR picoScan150 must be mounted as follows for the direction of movement:

2D LiDAR: picoScan150 with 2D Object Detection and system plug (P/N 2130871)
The field size of field "Group 1 left/ Group 1 right" and "Group 4 left/ Group 4 right" can be reduced or enlarged. The large fields in group 2 and 3 must be enlarged accordingly. The small field must remain unchanged and keeps the blanking size very large.
Optimization suggestions:
Outdoor: Activation of echo filter (last echo), fog filter and particle filter
If the object is too small and is not detected, the blanking size of the directional fields can be reduced and a scan profile with a high angular resolution can be used.
If the object is too fast and the field is not violated, the response time of the directional fields can be reduced. In addition, a scan profile with a high frequency can be selected.
If the system is too sensitive, the response time/blanking size of the directional fields can be increased
