Can the AutCal function be used if the tank is not empty?

Ilustrates the parameter CalRng in situations when the tank is not empty.

Table of Contents

The LFP Cubic and LFP Inox level sensors feature a function called AutCal, which teaches the sensor to ignore unwanted static signals. Such signals are typically caused by the tank itself or by internal structures such as pipes, heating elements, or baffles.

The CalRng parameter defines the length of the probe over which the teaching process is performed. Whenever possible, AutCal should be carried out with the tank empty. In some applications, however, draining the tank may not be possible and part of the probe remains covered by the process medium. In such cases, AutCal can still be performed, but CalRng must be reduced accordingly so that the taught range does not include the covered section of the probe.

If part of the probe is submerged, the correct CalRng setting is the distance from the plastic cone at the probe outlet of the process connection to the current medium level, minus at least 200 mm. This safety margin of at least 200 mm ensures that the signal reflected by the process medium itself is not included in the teaching process.
