Prerequisites

Supported Hardware and Software

  • The releases listed in this article only support Visionary-B Two devices: V3S146-1x

System requirements for firmware installation

  • Operating systems:
    • Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit), Windows 10 or Windows 11
    • Ubuntu Linux 14.04, 16.04, 18.04, 22.04 on x86_64 (64 bit)
    • Raspian Buster on ARM32 (32 bit)
  • 1 GHz CPU or comparable and at least 1 GB RAM
  • Free hard disk space: 250 MB
  • Ethernet: 100 MBit/s or higher. 1 Gbit/s or faster is recommended for best performance during configuration of the device

Installation

Please note:
Use the SICK AppManager software to update the firmware on a device.
In the SICK AppManager, do the following to update the firmware:

  1. Connect to the device.
  2. Import the firmware package (*.spk file) to the right pane named "Packages" using the "Add Package"/ + button or drag-and-drop.
  3. Select the firmware package, then press "Install" to start the firmware update

Release version 3.15.2

New Features

Functionality Description
AppEngine 3.15 Update to AppEngine 3.15 to enable latest features of SICK Sensor Apps
PTP time synchronization The clocks of an arbitrary number of cameras can now be synchronized via PTP. This allows for precise timing and offsets between the image acqusition of the individual cameras.
Image quality improvements Several adjustments to image processing to improve image quality
Hailo-8 AI accelerator support AppSpace support for Hailo-8 via standard DeepLearning API; Supports only object detection models with an input requirement of UINT8 images and Hailo NMS output
CAN support Integration of CAN Crown to enable customized CAN interfaces

Bug Fixes

Bug fix Description
Depth map Fixed a bug that caused an almost empty depth map after a power cycle
Purple colored RGB image Fixed a bug that caused an purple colored RGB image
Cybersecurity fixes Fixed vulnerabilites as part of our security roadmap

Known limitations and issues

Bug fix Description
FPGA error In case of FPGA error it can take up to 45s until a new image is received

Documentation

Hardware documentation

Basic product documentation such as a quickstart with technical data and mechanical drawings is included in the delivery of the Visionary-B Two 3D camera and available on sick.com.

Software documentation

The Visionary-B Two is a SICK AppSpace device that allows apps to run directly on the sensor or stream data via a GigE Vision interface:

  • The device is shipped with the “GigE Vision Basic” app as a standard. This app enables the GigE Vision interface and allows the use of the GigE Vision API for data streaming to a host PC.
  • When the "GigE Vision Basic"  app is removed from the device, the SICK AppSpace Algorithm API can be used to access the camera functions directly from an app that can be deployed and run on the device.

The following chapters describe both options in more detail and show where the corresponding information and documentation for the respective APIs can be found.

GigE Vision API

The "GigE Vision Basic" App, that enables the GigE Vision interface for Visionary-B Two and is the prerequisite for being able to use the GigE Vision API including there programming examples.

  • The "GigE Vision Basic" App is preinstalled when you order the device
  • Use the SICK AppManager to uninstall or reinstall the "GigE Vision Basic" if necessary
  • The latest version of the "GigE Vision Basic" app can be found in the SICK AppPool

The documentation of the GigE Vision API for the Visionary-B Two can be found in the corresponding packages on sick.com.

SICK AppSpace Algorithm API

If the data is not to be streamed via GigE Vision, but processed and used directly on the device, the SICK AppSpace algorithm API can be used.

  • The SICK AppSpace Algorithm API contains an extensive set of API functions for image acquisition, image processing, machine learning, and various associated convenience functions.
  • An AppSpace license for the SICK AppStudio development environment is required to use the SICK AppSpace Algorithm API.

The API Reference manual (attached to this article) or the code-completion in SICK AppStudio provides a complete documentation of the available functions of the SICK AppSpace algorithm API.
