Typically, a lot of our sensors with simple RS485 interface are made for a point-to point connection.
This means that the sensor is sending process data and the RS485 module is receiving the data = one way communication.
point-to-point communication:
Important to know: Our MLG-2 has built-in a fixed termination resistor.
Sometimes customers would like to connect more than one MLG in line:
Due to the built-in terminating resistor, this type of loop connection is not allowed
How can we do it in another way?
Connecting the terminated MLG's to both ends of line = maximum 2 MLG's can be connected.
How to configure?
We must consider that our RS485 is a 2-wire connection for half duplex communication = only one device can send data at a time.
There are 2 possible solutions:
- On request by assigning addresses - in our example "a" and "b"
Example with Docklight:
The requests must be sent one after another = no data collision.
Please note that this method slows down the communication.
- Controlled by trigger input
Here we have to follow the same condition: Both triggers must operate antivalent - only one device sends data at the same time.
