The reasons for a drifting  of the receiving light value can vary: 

- slowly ageing LED (drift should occur over a very long time (~100.000h). 
- dirt on the lenses (when cleaning, small scratches from the towel can lead to this behaviour)
- misalignment due to vibrations or force of the cleaning process
- UV light that leads to ageing of the fiber (especially for fibers with plastic core)
- Temperature changes 
 
The WLL180T does have a mode that helps to prevent such drifts. You will find it in the menu of the device.
