Introduction

DT50-2 offers a function called "Shape Mode", which can be used to classify objects that are moved on a conveyor belt along the laser beam of the DT50-2.

Before the sensor can be put into operation with this function, a teaching process consisting of three steps is required:

  • Teaching the length of the reference object
  • Teaching the shape of the reference object
  • (Optional) Teaching the tolerance level of one or more reference object(s)

Prerequisites

  • DT50-2 (Part no. 1065661) with power supply
  • Conveyor system with plain ground, moving at constant velocity
  • Possibility of mounting the DT50-2 above the conveyor system
  • One or more reference objects ("good" objects)

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Reset the DT50-2 to factory settings (recommended)
    • Go to - Set > Device > Reset
    • Switch to - Yes
    • Confirm with - Set

  2. Switch User to "Advanced"
    • Go to - Set > Device > User
    • Switch to - Advanced
    • Confirm with - Set

  3. Switch Mode to "Shape"
    • Go to - Set > Q1 Out > ModeQ1
    • Switch to Shape
    • Confirm with Set

  4. Teach length of reference object
    • Go to - Set > Q1 Out > Teach > Length
    • Hit Set to start teach procedure
    • Move a reference object through track
    • Stop teach procedure with Esc

  5. Teach shape of reference object
    • Go to - Set > Q1 Out > Teach > Shape
    • Hit Set to start teach procedure
    • Move a reference object through track
    • Teach procedure stops automatically. Success is indicated by Saved

  6. Adjust threshold by teaching some more "good" objects
    • Go to - Set > Q1 Out > Teach > Q1Good
    • Hit Set to start teach procedure
    • Move another reference object through track. If only one object is available, use this one multiple times.
    • Matching value (in percent) is shown on display
    • Repeat this step a few times (approx. 3..5 recommended) with some more "good" objects.

  7. Evaluate result
    • Go to Main menu. Scroll down to Shape output (starting with Shape, followed by a percentage value)
    • Let some objects move along the track. Have a look at percentage value on display and at switching output Q1 (indicated by yellow LED)

Recommended minimum object length

The recommended minimum length of an object depends on the speed of the conveyor system and the measurement speed parameter of the sensor.
Based on the following table, you can select a suitable measuring speed for a specific application:
