How does the dynamic teach-in work with the KTS and KTX contrast sensors?

There are many applications where it is advantageous to carry out the teach-in remotely:

  • inaccessible places
  • multi-lane application
  • carousel with a high number of contrast sensors

This can be done simply by activating the teach-in input.

The dynamic teach-in can be set in different ways. This happens with the sensitivity Setting

Auto = the sensitivity mode is defined by control-input (can be configured)

fine & middle = threshold is set close to mark according to the recorded contrast profile

coarse = threshold is set 50 % between the highest and lowest peak

Here you can find an example with several black print marks on a white background, there are some thin lines on the background that should not be recognized as a print mark. In the most applications the background can be blanked. In our example a background blanking is not possible, and we want to setup the contrast sensor in such a way, that it works anyway.

Case 1:

Dynamic Teach-in with sensitivity setting "Coarse"

  • robust threshold setting
  • the background noise must be blanked by the customer

Case 2:

Dynamic Teach-in with sensitivity setting "Middle"

  • the print marks must keep the same

  • no fading print

  • almost no flattering

  • well guided

Otherwise “fall back” to Coarse

Case 3:

Dynamic Teach-in with sensitivity setting "Fine"

  • The print marks must keep exactly equal

  • no fading

  • no flattering

  • exact guiding

Otherwise “fall back” to Coarse
