Release Notes

This document contains release notes for Visionary-S CX firmware releases. The latest firmware is version 6.0.0, released in May 2023.

The latest Visionary-S CX firmware is available on sick.com. Please contact SICK support if an older firmware versions is required.

In addition to the firmware, further software downloads for the related products are available here.
 

Prerequisites

Supported Hardware and Software

  • This release only supports Visionary-S CX devices: V3S102-1x
  • This release is not supported on devices with pre-release firmware versions that are older than 5.8.0.

System requirements

  • SOPAS Engineering Tool 2021.1 or higher.
  • For adequate SOPAS ET performance, use a PC with
    • Operating systems: Windows 7, 8 (32/64 bit) or Windows 10.
    • Min. Pentium i5 (2.6 GHz) and 4 GB RAM
    • Min. Intel® HD Graphics 3000 (or NVIDIA®  NVS 3100M 512MB GDDR3) and OpenGL 2.0 Support. Make sure to use the latest graphic card drivers!
    • Screen resolution 1,024 x 768 or higher, at least 256 colors (65,536 colors recommended)
    • Min. 450 MB hard drive space
    • Ethernet: 100 Mbit/s or higher. 1 Gbit/s or faster is recommended for best performance during configuration of the device via SOPAS ET and for streaming
  • A mouse with at least three buttons (or a scroll wheel) is recommended.
     

Installation

 

Please follow the instructions below and carefully read the release notes before starting the installation of the Visionary-S CX firmware. Make sure to connect the power supply to the device as well as the Ethernet cable.

Use SOPAS ET to update the firmware of the device. In the SOPAS ET follow the steps below:

  • In the right pane, click Search devices
  • Double-click on the listed Visionary-S CX you want to update. The device will now show up in the left pane
  • In the device menu, click Download firmware and follow instructions.

 

 

  • If prompted for password, use
    User: Service
    Password: CUST_SERV

 

  • After successfully upgrading the firmware, make sure to install the device driver by "Device upload" (not from Sick.com or disk)

New Features

  

Feature Description
Continuous RGB autoexposure

A new continuous autoexposure feature has been added for RGB Image which adapts the brightness of the RGB Image without user interaction if the feature is activated

Distance modes

It is now possible to switch between short and long range mode.
Short range: The depth range is limited to 0.5m ... 6.5m and provides sub mm precision.
Long range: The working range is increased to 0.5m ... 65m.

Error logs on SD cards

If a SD card is inserted into the device a log is copied on it which helps to investigate issues with the device.

Exposure time range

The range for the exposure time was extended down to 1µs in HDR mode

Reliability filter range

The range of the reliability filter has been increased to allow to weaken the depth validation.

 

Bug fixes

Bug fix Description:
DHCP

Device streaming stalled under special circumstances when DHCP is used to configure the IP Address of the Device. This has been fixed in this new firmware version.

 

Known limitations and issues

  

Limitation/Issue Description:
Interrupted FW update requires manual reboot In case that a FW update is interrupted (e.g. by user), the device requires a manual reboot
Changed IP address due to setting import Importing a .sopas file which changes the IP address requires a camera reboot after the import procedure for completion
Color map not saved SOPAS ET does not save the colormap when exporting the visualisation settings.

Bug fix Description
SDD clean up Incorrect SDD files for Visionary-T are no longer shipped with this Visionary-S SDD
Temperature warning LED After an overheating event the warning LED will switch off when the camera temperature drops below the warning level.
Improved RGB auto exposure RGB auto exposure now works up to 20,000 µs, which helps in dimly lit environments

Inverted IOs Selectable in and output behavior e.g. high or low active signal option
SIM support Prerequisites for SIM integration are solved

Bug fixes

Bug fix Description
Extended Python samples RGB handling (save data as PNG); Set and trigger AutoExposure and AutoWhiteBalance
Changed naming of "Dynamic Mode" Filter changed to "dynamic distance filter" to avoid misinterpretation
Rare illumination error Fixed bug resulted in deactivated illumination when triggering slowly
