When commissioning a PROFINET network, each device must be given a unique PROFINET device name (station name). Various options are available for assigning this name. These can include controller-specific configuration software (e.g. SIEMENS TIA) or diagnostic tools (e.g. SIEMENS PRONETA).
Depending on the DL100 Pro PROFINET device generation, the name can alternatively also be assigned via the SICK SOPAS Engineering Tool. This option is available for all 2nd generation devices (type code DL100-xxxxx212 respectively DL100-xxxxx213).
The desired device name can be entered in the Ethernet settings without logging first in to the device. By selecting “Store PROFINET Configuration”, the name is saved permanently.
For 1st generation devices (type code DL100-xxxxx112), the device name can only be read using the SOPAS Engineering Tool, but not written. The corresponding field is therefore grayed out.
As a result you should use alternative tools such as SIEMENS TIA or SIEMENS PRONETA for the device name setting of mentioned versions.
Further information on the difference between the 1st and 2nd generation of DL100 PROFINET devices can be found in the linked knowledge article.
