As you probably know, the mounting bell is either mounted via an additional mounting bracket or it is mounted directly on the application.
A shaft coupling ensures the connection between the encoder shaft and the drive shaft.

However, an unfavorable selection of the shaft coupling can lead to two problematic events under certain circumstances.
This can be seen in the figures below.

The first figure shows that when using and professionally installing the bar coupling KUP-0610-S/2056407, it is still very easy to mount it with the drive shaft and to tighten the clamping screw from the coupling. In addition, the bar coupling still has a small distance of 0.8mm to the application or mounting bracket, i.e. the coupling does not yet touch or drag on the surface of the mounting bracket or application.

However, if the choice falls on the bellows coupling KUP-0610-B/5312982, for example, the following two problems arise due to the larger dimensions:

  • The bellows coupling no longer has any distance to the surface of the mounting bracket or to the application and is about 5mm behind it. The problem can be solved with a sufficiently large recess hole for the coupling in the mounting bracket or in the application.

  • The mounting of the shaft coupling on the drive shaft and the tightening of the clamping screw of the coupling is very difficult precisely because of the offset of 5mm to the surface of the mounting bracket or application.
There are two ways to remedy this.
On the one hand, you can try to place the torque wrench at an extremely angled position on the clamping screw of the coupling.
However, if this does not allow a satisfying clamping of the coupling, a through hole of sufficient size for the torque wrench can be attached vertically into the mounting bracket or into the application at the level of the clamping screw of the coupling. In this way the tightening of the clamping screw of the coupling can be achieved again with ease.
