Task: We need to detect the speed of a toothed wheel or fanblades of a fan wheel
Analysis result:
Optical sensors can work, the most stable detection is to mount a reflector or piece of reflective tape on the wheel. If it is possible to put a marking by fluorescent transparent lacquer on eg. one tooth or fan blade then it is possible to use a Luminescence sensors LUT...
An easy-to-mount solution are our fork sensors eg. WFL...:
If the teeth are big enough and built from metal an inductive would be the best.
If you use an inductive sensor please follow the recommendation for wheel dimensions:
See "Recommendation for dimensions of a toothed wheel.pptx" in the attachments.
Additional hints:
If the sensor impulses are too fast for your PLC you can use a Smart Sensor to create a signal divider. The smart sensor can give out eg. Every 100th impulse and the PLC multiplies the counted impulses by 100. If you wanted to check if the wheel works in defined speed or deceleration ranges you could use the speed and acceleration monitor IMC18... or IMC30... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_xQFH4y6k8
